ABOUT
TRI-COUNCIL |
In
1976, the training
teams of the Long Beach Area,
San
Gabriel Valley and
Verdugo Hills
Councils formed a partnership to jointly provide
Wood Badge training to Scout
Leaders within the three Councils.
The Wood Badge
course is the advanced training program for Scout Leaders. It is designed to train
those Leaders in Cub Scouting, Boy Scouting and Venturing who are directly involved with
unit operation. Its purpose is to aid Leaders in
providing a quality program that will enable each Scout to grow
to his or her greatest potential. The Wood Badge program consists of two
parts - practical training and application. The practical
leadership experience is gained in a "training unit"
camp setting where skills of leadership can be learned and practiced
as a part of life in the unit. At the conclusion of the
practical training, each participant has a maximum of two years to complete the application phase and
meet all of the goals that have been established. The Wood Badge
course involves Leaders in situations likely to be found in a typical Scouting
unit. The training is applied in a variety of Scoutcraft
activities
as well as in an in-depth exploration of the role of
the adult leader
in developing youth through Scouting.
The Tri-Council Wood Badge
courses have been of the most successful cluster courses attempted in BSA's
Western Region. For THIRTY years, the partners have consistently Delivered
the Promise. Because of the weekend format and good reputation of
Quality training offered by the Tri-Council staffs, it is common for our courses
to include Scouters from throughout Southern California!
